the price is right documentary

The following clip is a trailer for a feature-length documentary, Come On Down: The Road to 'The Price Is Right'. I couldn't find any details about when and where this film will be screening, but I get the feeling it will be entertaining.

It looks like I don't have a whole lot of time left if I still want to catch TPIR in person. The following are the remaining taping dates with Bob Barker.

March: 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 19, 20, 21, 22, 26, 27, 28, 29
April: 2, 3, 4, 5, 16, 17, 18, 19, 24, 30
May: 1, 2, 3, 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 31
June: 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28

Now, here's the scary news. It looks like they have several replacement candidates for Bob Barker. From the CBS website:
Testing, Testing - 1, 2, 3
All fans of The Price Is Right, here is your chance to be part of two non-air tapings on Monday, March 12 with actor George Hamilton, actor Mario Lopez or Mike Richards, from Beauty and the Geek. Arrival times are 10:00am or 3:00pm.
All I can say is there can't possibly be a replacement for Bob Barker. Bob Barker is The Price Is Right and The Price Is Right is Bob Barker. Inseperable.

I wonder what kids watch nowadays when they stay home sick...

They're watching Yu-Gi-Oh. Remember, our elementary days were without cable. I think the only old-school gameshow that produces new content mid-day is Family Feud. The new era of game shows probably exists in the daytime show "My Games Fever" where home viewers participate mentally in mini-games and text message their answers for cash (@ .99/message). There are other shows like this.

I noticed that Richard Karn (Al Borland from Home Improvement) is not hosting Family Feud anymore, but rather John O'Hurley (J. Peterman from Seinfeld) is hosting now. I miss the 1970s-1980s style set where the contestants step through the picture frame to make their entrance before the big game board rotated into place. The new set just isn't quite the same :)
